They will investigate Jack Smith, ex fiscal special that intended to see Donald Trump behind bars
Jack Smith no longer has the support of the attorney general and must now prove he did not break the law
Jack Smith, the former special prosecutor who intended to hold Donald Trump accountable for allegedly breaking the law, will be the subject of an investigation by the Office of the Special Counsel (OSC), an independent federal agency.
It should be noted that the OSC focuses on helping government whistleblowers report anomalies of waste or irregularities and also enforces the Hatch Act, which imposes restrictions on government employees to prevent them from engaging in partisan political activities.
Following a recommendation from Tom Cotton, Senator from Arkansas, an investigation was opened to determine whether Jack Smith violated the Hatch Act when he tried to find evidence to hold the current president accountable for having removed classified documents from Washington to store them in his Florida residence and for trying to interfere with the results of the 2020 presidential election.
A large group of Republicans asserts that behind the former special counsel's actions there was the intention politics to damage Trump's political aspirations.
In November 2022, then-Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed Jack Smith as special prosecutor, and from that moment on, he began to exert continuous pressure on the Republican magnate.
After the presidential elections concluded, Trump's victory at the ballot meant that all accusations against him and the risk of going to trial were dismissed.
In response, before resigning from his position in January of this year, Jack Smith denied that his investigations were politically motivated.
Weeks earlier, the legislative expert even warned that upon assuming the presidency, Donald Trump would use the Department of Justice to take revenge on him.
In this way, in less than a year, the former special prosecutor went from being the one who accused to becoming a figure who could be severely punished by the courts.
