WASHINGTON.- With the help of a Democrat and in the absence of several senators, Republicans rejected the attempt to limit President Donald Trump's war powers.

The proposal reached the Upper House a few hours later, after the House of Representatives approved with 214 votes to 208 – with the support of four Republicans – the proposal that sought to limit Trump's military escalation in Iran.

The vote in the Senate was 47 in favor against 49. In a strange scenario where a Republican, Susan Collins (Maine), joined the Democrats, while a Democrat, John Fetterman (Pennsylvania), joined the Republicans.

The resolution was promoted by Senator Chris Van Hollen (Maryland), to order Trump to withdraw the Army from Iran.

“[It is ordered] to withdraw the Armed Forces of the United States from hostilities within or against Iran, unless explicitly authorized by a declaration of war or a specific authorization for the use of military force,” the project indicated.

Republicans Lisa Murkowski (Alaska) and Rand Paul (Kentucky) had previously supported similar initiatives by Democrats, but did not vote this time.

The proposal that advanced in the House was promoted by Democrat Pramila Jayapal (Washington) and supported by Republicans Tom Barrett (Michigan), Brian Fitzpatrick (Pennsylvania), Warren Davidson (Ohio) and Thomas Massie (Kentucky).
