Prior to the start of the 2026 Soccer World Cup, groups of relatives of missing persons and civil organizations denounced that public and government attention has been focused on the organization of the sporting event, while problems such as forced disappearances, femicides and violence persist in different regions of the country.

During a protest held in Mexico City, search mothers, relatives of victims and activists demanded that the authorities not relegate these demands in the face of the international expectation generated by the tournament.

The protesters pointed out that the country faces a humanitarian crisis that requires urgent and permanent attention, according to the La Silla Rota site.

The participants expressed that, while the World Cup monopolizes media space and institutional resources, thousands of families continue to search for their loved ones and face obstacles to accessing justice.

They also warned that violence against women and femicides continue to be a daily reality in various entities of the country.

The organizations announced visibility actions for the coming days with the aim of taking advantage of the international attention that Mexico will receive during the sports event.

They clarified that their intention is not to affect the development of the World Cup, but rather to use the context to demand concrete responses from the authorities.

The groups called on federal and state governments to strengthen search, investigation and victim care policies, as well as guarantee that demands for justice are not overshadowed by international events.

The mobilization is part of a series of protests and activities called by civil organizations that seek to place issues related to human rights, disappearances and gender violence in the country on the public agenda.
