Meta offers free training and guaranteed employment to build AI data centers in the US.
Meta will invest $115 million dollars to train workers for free and guarantee them employment in the construction of data centers for AI
Meta announced an investment of $115 million to train workers in skilled trades for free, with the promise of guaranteeing them a job upon completion of the program. The initiative seeks to address the growing labor demand generated by the expansion of data centers linked to the rise of artificial intelligence.
The parent company of Facebook and Instagram presented America's Workforce Academy, a training program aimed at veterans, recent graduates, people interested in changing careers and anyone aspiring to enter the skilled trades, without prior experience.
The project will start this year with pilot sites in Indiana, Louisiana, Ohio and Texas, states where Meta plans to promote the training of workers who will later participate in the construction of technological infrastructure.
Meta will finance all training expenses
According to the company, the program will last five weeks and will be completely free for participants. Meta will cover tuition, flights, accommodation and a daily allowance during the training period.
Upon completion of the course, graduates will receive an industry-recognized certification in areas with high job demand, including:
In addition, the company assured that those who successfully complete the training will have guaranteed access to jobs related to the construction of data centers.
Artificial intelligence triggers demand for specialized workers
Meta explained that the United States is currently facing a shortage of fiber optic technicians, electricians, welders, plumbers and other specialists essential to developing the technological infrastructure that artificial intelligence requires.
The race among big tech companies to expand their data processing capacity has fueled a wave of data center construction across the country. According to figures cited by Apollo Global Management, the United States has around 4,000 operational data centers and another 3,000 are announced or in various stages of construction.
For its part, Data Center Map reports the existence of 4,346 facilities of this type in US territory.
Data centers could generate hundreds of thousands of jobs
A 2025 report by the American Edge Project estimates that data center development could generate around 4.7 million temporary construction jobs and nearly 700,000 permanent positions dedicated to the operation and management of these facilities.
Meta believes that this scenario represents an opportunity to strengthen the American workforce and respond to the needs of an industry that continues to grow driven by artificial intelligence.
“The AI revolution brings change, but also historic opportunities,” said Dina Powell McCormick, president of Meta, highlighting the role that specialized workers will play in building the technological infrastructure of the future.
Community resistance to data centers grows
Although the expansion of data centers promises to generate jobs and investment, various projects have faced opposition in several communities in the country.
Among the main concerns expressed by residents and local organizations are the impact on electrical networks, possible environmental effects and doubts about the direct economic benefits for the areas where these infrastructures are installed.
The launch of America's Workforce Academy also occurs in a context in which Meta continues to allocate billions of dollars to the expansion of data centers, while recently making cuts of approximately 8,000 jobs, according to reports cited by US media.
