Greg Abbott aims to prevent the increase of Muslim organizations in Texas and designates two of them as terrorists
Greg Wayne Abbott, governor of Texas, signed a document declaring the Muslim Brotherhood and the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) as foreign terrorist organizations in the Lone Star State.
In a statement, the Republican The 68-year-old stated he was concerned about the penetration both organizations have achieved in Texas in recent years, which he considers a security risk.
“The Muslim Brotherhood and CAIR have long made their objectives clear: to forcibly impose Islamic law and establish 'Islam's dominion over the world.'
The actions undertaken by the Muslim Brotherhood and CAIR to support terrorism around the world and subvert our laws through violence, intimidation, and harassment are unacceptable,” part of the letter states.
Globally, CAIR is known as a Muslim civil rights group focused on defending human rights, so labeling it a terrorist organization is controversial.
In response, the Muslim organization issued a letter anticipating the start of a legal battle against Greg Abbott for defamation.
“While we are flattered by Greg Abbott's obsession with our rights organization "Civilians, his publicity stunt disguised as a proclamation has no basis in fact or law.
By defaming a prominent American Muslim institution with discredited conspiracy theories and fabricated quotes, Mr. Abbott has once again demonstrated that his top priority is promoting anti-Muslim intolerance, not serving the people of Texas," the document states.
Regarding the Muslim Brotherhood, despite being a transnational Sunni Islamist organization founded in Egypt, which allegedly provides social services such as pharmacies, hospitals, and schools, Republican Senator Ted Cruz of Texas,He had been promoting a bill to designate it as a terrorist organization for months. The stance of the politician, born in Calgary, Canada, arose in the wake of an attack perpetrated in June by a man identified as Mohamed Soliman. During a pro-Israel demonstration held in Bouler, Colorado, the individual, originally from Egypt, attacked 12 people with Molotov cocktails. This action led to the revocation of the visas necessary for both the attacker and his family members to continue living in the United States. In response to this situation, Greg Abbott demanded a firm hand against this type of violent action. “These radical extremists are not welcome in our state and are now prohibited from acquiring any real estate interests in Texas,” he emphasized.
