Iran claims diplomatic exchanges continue through mediators with the US.
The Iranian foreign spokesman said that Tehran is committed to both war and diplomacy based on its national interests
When asked if the door to negotiations with the United States was already closed, Iran's Foreign Affairs spokesman, Esmail Baghaei, stated this Monday (07/20/2026) that the Tehran government focuses on war and diplomacy based on its national interests.
"I reject the dichotomy of war or diplomacy; diplomacy is a tool by which we defend our national interests, just like war," Baghaei said.
"We have been informed by the mediators, we have received messages - without going into details - but the essential thing is that the diplomatic apparatus has been active in recent days and that some ideas have been transmitted to us by certain mediators," declared the spokesman for Iranian diplomacy during a press conference in Tehran.
Pakistan, Qatar and Oman participate in mediations between Tehran and Washington.
