Senators in charge of budget appropriations released the text of a package of three long-term funding bills that are part of the plan to end the government shutdown once and for all. According to CBS News, the strategy involves voting to advance the continuity resolution passed by the House of Representatives and amending it to include the appropriations package, as well as a longer extension of government funding. This agreement would allow the end of the longest federal government shutdown in US history. However, not immediately, as the amended package would still need to be approved by the House of Representatives and sent to President Donald Trump for his signature, a process that could take several days. The agreement will allow Congress to approve budgeted funds for the Departments of Agriculture, Veterans Affairs, and other agencies until January 30, while also making it possible to pay the salaries of approximately 650,000 furloughed employees and reinstate some of those who were suspended from their jobs.

This federal government shutdown has reached a record 40 days, causing the suspension of pay for several hundred thousand federal employees, the closure of essential services, the non-payment of food stamps for the poorest, and long delays at airports and in air traffic. This is due to the shortage of air traffic controllers and airport security personnel.

Faced with the lack of salaries, many employees have been forced to resort to food donations or emergency loans, while a large number continued working without receiving their paychecks.

We have the latest music news in La Opinion Hoy with Liseth Perez, entertainment and lifestyle editor of El Diario de Nueva York and La Opinion.

“This week I'm packed with music because there were some very interesting releases, Some are already breaking records, and there are other collaborations worth mentioning. The first album I want to talk about this week is Lux, Rosalia's album. We mentioned a week ago that she was about to release this album, and well, it's already out, and just a few days after its release,it's already breaking records,” said Liseth Perez. She added that “for example, in its first 24 hours on Spotify, it reached 42.1 million streams, making it the most-streamed album by a Spanish-language artist, by a female artist. The previous record was held by Karol G with her album Manana Sera Bonito, which had 32 million streams. This one had 42 million, a significant difference from 10 million. But the important thing about this album is that it's something very, very special; it's a very experimental album. “Those who were expecting to dance to urban music or reggaeton or any of the rhythms she had previously released, well, this isn't the album for them.”
