Ryan Garcia is close to finalizing an agreement with Mario Barrios to fight for the World Boxing Council (WBC) welterweight title, as reported by Mike Coppinger in The Ring magazine.

According to the journalist, the world championship fight would take place in the first quarter of 2026 and The teams of both Garcia and Barrios have exchanged contracts. “Ryan Garcia and Mario Barrios are nearing an agreement for a WBC welterweight title fight in the first quarter of 2026. Officials from Golden Boy, Garcia's promoter, and PBC have been exchanging contracts,” it was reported. King Ry had already expressed his interest in facing Mario Barrios for the title and pursuing a cash-in fight against Manny Pacquiao or a rematch with Rolando 'Rolly' Romero. This news hasn't gone down well with fans because they think he's getting an unfair opportunity. It's worth remembering that Ryan Garcia is coming off a loss to Rolly Romero last May. The fighter of Puerto Rican descent completely dominated him and ultimately took the victory by unanimous decision (115-112, 115-112, 118-109).

In addition, 'Rolly' captured the World Boxing Association (WBA) 147-pound belt. This was the third time King Ry has missed the opportunity to become a world champion.

Meanwhile, Mario Barrios drew with Manny Pacquiao and retained his WBC championship. He was expected to have a rematch with the Filipino - who will return to action in January - but the former eight-division champion is now targeting Rolly Romero.

Ryan Garcia, 25, returned to action after a year-long doping suspension and suffered his second career loss. The Mexican-American has a record of 24 wins (20 by knockout), two losses, and one no contest in his professional career.

For his part, Mario Barrios, 30, retained his WBC welterweight title after drawing for the second consecutive time. The American has a record of 39 wins (18 by knockout),two losses and two draws as a professional.
