The IRS is unable to investigate Donald Trump, his family or companies, for tax problems
Trump got something more valuable from the IRS than a huge compensation, immunity from possible investigations into tax problems
An agreement established between the Department of Justice (DOJ) and Donald Trump prompted the president of the nation to refrain from continuing with a lawsuit, through which he demanded the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) compensation of $10 billion dollars for having leaked, without authorization, his tax returns during the first term in which he governed.
At the end of January, the lawyers of the New York magnate and his offspring Donald and Eric went to a federal court based in Florida to present the complaint in their personal capacity, setting aside their position as head of the nation.
"The IRS wrongly allowed a rogue and politically motivated employee to leak private and confidential information about President Trump, his family and the Trump Organization to the New York Times, ProPublica and other left-wing media outlets, which was then illegally disclosed to millions of people. President Trump continues to hold those who harm the United States and Americans accountable," said part of a statement issued by Trump's legal team.
However, the Politico site announced that the 79-year-old Republican reached an agreement that was very beneficial for his cause and thus gave up going ahead.
In the first instance, it was requested to create a fund close to $1.8 billion dollars to compensate people or organizations that have allegedly been “instrumentalized” by previous administrations.
One of the controversial points is that said fund would benefit the president's allies, including the rioters who violently entered the Capitol on January 6, 2021, with the aim of preventing the recognition of Joe Biden as winner of the presidential elections in 2020.
Furthermore, it is stated that, in the document signed by Todd Blanche, acting attorney general, the federal government is allegedly “PROHIBITED and FOREVER LIMITED” from processing or carrying out “claims or investigations” arising from matters pending before the IRS, including tax returns filed by Donald Trump prior to the agreement being reached, which extends to his family, trusts, companies and other affiliated entities.
