The United States and Saudi Arabia carried out precision strikes against positions of terrorist groups aligned with Iran in eastern Iraq, in response to more than thirty drone attacks led by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) against US forces and Saudi energy infrastructure in the last 72 hours, the US Central Command (Centcom) reported.
The attacks destroyed several logistics and weapons centers, according to Centcom, which warned the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and its allies to cease attacks to avoid a new US military response.
The new US attack comes after it claimed to have thwarted an attempted surprise attack with several ballistic missiles launched from Iran against US troops deployed in the Middle East, in the first attack of its kind since President Donald Trump claimed that Washington and Tehran were negotiating.
In addition, Centcom noted that between February and April, more than six hundred attempted attacks by militias aligned with Iran against US citizens and facilities in Iraq were recorded.
Last Thursday, the United States carried out its most recent round of bombings against the Islamic Republic, in the thirteenth consecutive day of attacks since the truce agreed in June was broken.
Since the initial implementation of the maritime blockade, US forces have diverted more than 140 vessels, disabled nine ships that disobeyed their orders, and allowed the passage of more than fifty commercial vessels carrying humanitarian aid.
