A car wash company is the best place to work in 2026
Crew Carwash chain chosen by Glassdoor as the best place to work in the US in 2026, beating out major tech companies
At a time when millions of workers in the United States feel burned out or disconnected from their jobs, an unconventional company has topped the country's most influential job ranking. It's not a tech firm or a global bank. It's a car wash chain that was recognized as the best place to work in 2026. The company is Crew Carwash, headquartered in Indianapolis with operations in Midwestern states like Indiana and Minnesota. According to Glassdoor, a platform specializing in workplace reviews, this company topped its list of the 100 Best Places to Work in 2026, based on direct employee reviews. Crew Carwash is a family-owned business with around 1,000 employees in both part-time and full-time positions. It operates 55 locations and, although it belongs to a traditionally operational sector, it managed to outperform large corporations. In 2025, it had already reached second place, demonstrating a sustained improvement in its workplace culture. Glassdoor compiles this ranking based on anonymous reviews posted by actual employees. For this edition, reviews of US companies collected between October 2024 and October 2025 were analyzed. The algorithm considers factors such as growth opportunities, compensation, benefits, leadership, and overall satisfaction. “Flexibility is extremely important to employees right now, and it doesn’t just mean remote work,” commented Daniel Zhao, chief economist at Glassdoor. “Some companies are willing to be flexible with schedules or give more autonomy over how employees manage their careers.” This recognition contrasts sharply with the overall reality of the labor market. According to Gallup’s most recent State of the Workplace report, only three out of ten workers in the United States are engaged in their jobs. This is the lowest level recorded in a decade.
Gallup explains that engaged employees tend to be more productive and generate better results. However, many workers face pressures such as automation, artificial intelligence, and budget cuts, which have deteriorated employee morale.
The 2026 ranking also reflects changes in other sectors. Although technology companies remain the most represented with 24 positions, their presence has decreased compared to previous years. In 2024, they occupied 31 places, and in 2025, they totaled 26.
“This is part of a trend where many technology employers are cutting benefits that previously made these jobs very attractive,” explained Zhao. Even so, companies like Nvidia, which ranked third, continue to show high potential for professional and salary growth.
The Crew Carwash case sends a clear message. A good job doesn't depend on the prestige of the sector, but on labor practices that prioritize stability, respect, and the development of people.
