Amazon extends return period during seasonal shopping
Amazon announced an extension of the return period for shoppers during the holiday season
Amazon announced an extension of its return period during seasonal shopping, giving consumers a longer window to resolve any purchases that don't meet their expectations.
The company announced that its special end-of-year policy will allow most items purchased between November 1 and December 31 to be returned until January 31, 2026. The initiative aims to provide a more convenient experience for those buying gifts or making early purchases. The e-commerce giant explained that its goal is to simplify the process for users. “We understand that there may be times when a purchase doesn't meet your expectations or your needs change,” Amazon stated on its help and customer service page. “When that happens, we make completing a return simple and convenient.” The company emphasized that this flexibility applies only to products that are unused or in their original condition. Amazon clarified that there are exceptions. Not all products qualify for this extended return window. Items from specific brands like Apple can only be returned until January 15, 2026, if they were purchased during the holiday season. The company also reminded shoppers to check the details page of each product before finalizing their purchase to determine its return eligibility. Additionally, some items are strictly non-refundable unless they arrive damaged, defective, or different from what was advertised. Among the products that cannot be returned are perishables, items that pose health or safety risks, products with shipping restrictions, personalized merchandise, exchangeable products, pet medicines, Amazon Pharmacy purchases, automobiles, and any item marked as “Final Sale.” To initiate a return, customers must go to the “Your Orders” section within Amazon and select the “Return Items” option.
Once the seller or Amazon has received the item and determined its condition, the refund will be processed. This process can take up to 30 days.
The holiday season is usually chaotic in terms of exchanges and returns. For this reason, other major retailers have also decided to make their policies more flexible:
The retail industry is one of those that has had to undergo the most transformations to remain popular with consumers, amidst fierce competition and adverse economic effects, such as the high inflation of recent years. With these measures, large companies seek to provide services that contribute to their customers' peace of mind. Even so, it is important to review the specific conditions of each product and keep receipts or purchase confirmations to avoid future complications.
