“Vasco” Aguirre has not yet defined the lineup for the debut against South Africa
Javier Aguirre highlighted that, although he has not defined his starting eleven against South Africa, he trusts each of the 26 called up for the World Cup tournament.
After the 5-1 win against Serbia, Mexico national team coach Javier Aguirre acknowledged that he has not yet defined the starting eleven, but clarified that this is not a cause for concern because he trusts each of the 26 called up to the final list to face the 2026 World Cup.
"We have been preparing for 22 months and I think that choosing the final list was not easy. There were many setbacks along the way, 12 injured, but beyond the result I think we are on the rise, we arrived well with good spirits, we recovered players and we arrived at a good point," he highlighted.
The national coach recognized that the list of 26 called up gives him a range of options to form the initial team against Bafana Bafana in order to achieve a favorable result in Mexico's World Cup debut.
"The 26 give me a range of possibilities, I don't feel that in any position we have weaknesses or difficulties. We will see next week how we are, but I don't have distrust of one or the other; in my opinion, anyone can play; we have 26 players who can play at any time," said the Mexican strategist.
The national coach, very upset by Serbia's goal
Javier Aguirre, on the other hand, was lapidary in defining the goal that Serbia scored against them and which derived from a serious error by defenders Johan Vászquez and Jesús Gallardo, considering that they cannot allow that kind of failure.
"It was terrifying nonsense, one is determined and the other was not talked about; in high competition they vaccinate you. The results give us security, we arrive emotionally strengthened because in the last games we achieved victories; let's hope to start well next week," highlighted the national strategist.
Finally, he rejected that the win over Serbia allows us to get the bells flying, “because we have to be serious with the result and with the team's actions,” he concluded.
