Federal government shutdown affects CalFresh program benefits

California's CalFresh program is at risk as a result of the federal government shutdown.
If the federal government shutdown continues, benefits from the Nutrition Assistance Program, known as SNAP, or CalFresh in California, could be suspended in November due to a lack of resources, affecting 1.5 million people in Los Angeles.
The Los Angeles County Department of Social Services announced that people enrolled in the state program may not receive funds to purchase food at stores and supermarkets.
