Kobe Bryant's Christmas sneakers surpass $10 million
The global sales director of the e-commerce platform, Caitlin Donovan, told EFE that the minimum sale price is $10 million.
The iconic Nike Kobe 6 'Grinch' sneakers, worn by Kobe Bryant in the 2010 Christmas Day game against LeBron James' Miami Heat, were put up for auction with a minimum bid of $10 million by the Joopiter trading platform, owned by artist Pharrell Williams.
The green, scaly shoes originally led to them being known as 'Green Mamba' after the player's nickname, but their debut at Christmas gave rise to the colloquial nickname 'Grinch,' a furry, green creature originating in literature who hates the holiday season.
The global sales director of the e-commerce platform, Caitlin Donovan, told EFE that the minimum sale price is $10 million.
The autographed sneakers were displayed this week alongside other Bryant collectibles at a location in Beverly Hills, California, for potential buyers to see.
Bryant scored 17 points in his only appearance wearing these shoes, in a game his Lakers lost 80-96 against the Miami Heat of James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh at the Staples Center (now Crypto.com Arena).
Last August, A trading card signed by Bryant and Michael Jordan was auctioned for over $12.9 million by Heritage Auctions, a record amount for such a card in the United States and making it the second most expensive sports collectible of all time.
