After a day in which the Mexican peso recorded new losses against the US currency, the exchange market begins this Thursday, June 25, with moderate movements, while investors keep their eyes focused on the next economic data from the United States.
The average price of the dollar in Mexico today is $17.59 pesos per unit. During the previous session, the national currency lost ground against the greenback, in a context marked by the global strengthening of the US currency.
According to information from the Bank of Mexico (Banxico), the official closing price for Wednesday, June 24, was $17.6248 pesos per dollar. This data is calculated from the average of the operations carried out by the country's banking institutions. However, due to the continuous activity of the exchange market, the exchange rate ended around $17.63 pesos per unit at the end of the day.
According to data from Dow Jones, at the opening this Thursday the US dollar was quoted on average at $17.57 Mexican pesos. This figure represents a decrease of 0.24% compared to the previous close of $17.61 pesos, reflecting moderate adjustments during the first hours of trading.
Despite this initial movement, the dollar maintains a strengthening trend against various international currencies. In weekly terms, the US currency accumulates an advance of 1.24% against the Mexican peso. However, when comparing its performance with the same period of the previous year, it registered a decrease of 5.29%.
Meanwhile, exchange rate volatility remains at relatively moderate levels. Currently, it stands at 6.36%, below the reference volatility of 7.6%, an indicator that points to greater stability within the exchange market.
Banxico also reported that the FIX exchange rate published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF) for this Thursday was established at $17.6213 pesos per dollar. Likewise, the exchange rate applicable for the payment of obligations denominated in US dollars was set at $17.5505 pesos per unit.
The FIX exchange rate is a reference used in various financial and commercial operations within the country. Its calculation is made based on the average of the prices observed in the wholesale exchange market during banking business days and is published the day prior to its application.
