Sheinbaum announces the sending of a team of Mexican rescuers to Venezuela after powerful earthquakes in that country
The Mexican president will send 250 soldiers and canine pairs to Venezuela to support rescue efforts
The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, announced that this Thursday a team of rescuers from the Ministry of National Defense and health personnel will travel to Venezuela to support rescue efforts after the powerful earthquakes in the Latin American country.
"Before continuing, our solidarity with the people of Venezuela, today a team from the Secretariat of National Defense of rescuers and health personnel is leaving to arrive in Venezuela and once installed there and having spoken with the authorities, we will determine tomorrow additional personnel that is required to always be able to help the people that need it," he said.
“250 soldiers, 5 cannons, 4 aircraft, a drone, search and rescue tools as well as equipment and healing materials,” he said.
Sheinbaum Pardo revealed that the Secretary of Foreign Affairs of Mexico, Roberto Velasco, held a conversation via text messages with the Venezuelan president, Delcy Rodríguez, to offer Mexico's support.
"At this moment there is nothing more than support, they did not ask for it, Roberto (Velasco, Foreign Minister of Mexico) spoke yesterday with the president of Venezuela, by message more than by phone, they had communication by message, and with other authorities of the government of Venezuela and what they asked of us at this moment is rescuers and support from health personnel, so a first brigade from the Secretariat of National Defense leaves today. Once they get there and make an assessment with the Venezuelan authorities, we will see what additional help they require and of course We will be informing you,” he said.
The head of the Mexican executive said that so far the Venezuelan authorities have not requested support from Mexico in food or supplies.
"We are going to wait, they told us that what they need is that. They did not ask us for support in food or some other supplies, so for now the most important thing they ask of us is this and I repeat, a brigade is going today," he commented.
The Mexican president assured that so far there have been no reported Mexicans or deaths in Venezuela and left open the possibility of maintaining contact with Delcy Rodríguez.
"At the moment we do not have any. In communication with the Mexican embassy in Venezuela, no Mexicans have been reported injured or unfortunately deceased but we are under permanent review," he clarified.
Sheinbaum's statements this morning from the National Palace add to what was published last night by the Mexican president after expressing her solidarity with the Venezuelan people after the powerful earthquakes of more than 7 degrees.
"Our solidarity with the people of Venezuela. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has contacted the government of the brother country and I have already instructed the preparation of the necessary aid. For now they have asked us for support with personnel specialized in rescue and health. Mexico always is and will be supportive," he wrote on his social network account "X."
