Toyota Racing Development (TRD) was responsible for shaping this concept, which combines the TNGA-F platform with a propulsion system inherited directly from the Mirai sedan, the brand's flagship fuel cell model.

Hydrogen power for impossible terrain

At the heart of the Tacoma H2-Overlander is a fuel cell system powered by three hydrogen tanks, with a total capacity of 6 kilograms. These are discreetly integrated into the chassis, supplying power to a set of two electric motors—one at the front with 301 horsepower and one at the rear with 252 horsepower—resulting in a combined output of 547 horsepower. In addition, the vehicle can provide up to 15 kilowatts of electrical power, enough to power a small campsite or even recharge two electric vehicles simultaneously using NEMA 14-50 outlets. It is, literally, a mobile power station in the middle of nature.
