They will send direct payment of $500 this month: who qualifies

At a time of a shortage of stimulus checks and economic support, a direct payment of up to $500 dollars approved by a US state has arrived, which has already started to be sent and is part of a special rebate financed with the budget surplus. The main question is simple: who receives it and when the money arrives.
This support is not a federal program, it is a tax refund from the state of Georgia. The measure was approved after the signing of House Bill 1000, and represents the fourth refund This has been extraordinary in recent years in Georgia. The first payments began to be issued on May 4, and are being distributed gradually to eligible taxpayers.
“Georgians know better than anybody how to spend their money, not the government,” declared Governor Brian Kemp. “That's why we're committed to manage those funds well and to allocate a larger portion where it belongs: to the pockets of Georgians.”
Who qualifies for the payment of up to $500 dollars?
The Georgia Department of Revenue (DOR) has established clear rules to determine who can receive this refund. Generally, they qualify for s individuals who have filed their state tax return for tax years 2024 and 2025 within the official deadlines.
This includes full time residents, partial residents, and even non-residents who have reported income in Georgia. However, it is it is mandatory to have submitted the declaration on time, either before April 15 2025 or with valid extension until October 15 2025.
The amount of the payment depends on the type of taxpayer:
The final payment cannot exceed the amount of taxes paid during the applicable fiscal year, so not everyone will receive the maximum amount.
How will the money be delivered?
One of the advantages of this program is that it requires no application. The Department of Revenue automatically reviews filing returns. taxes and determines the eligibility of each person. If the taxpayer qualifies, the payment is sent without the need for additional procedures.
The deposits are being made by two methods: direct deposit or check by-mail. The form delivery depends on the banking or postal information that the taxpayer has provided on their return.
Additionally, the state enabled an online tool called “Check Your Surplus Tax Refund,” where residents can check whether they will receive e l payment. To check, you need the Social Security number(SSN) or tax ID number, the tax year and the adjusted gross income.
Who will not receive the refund?
Not all residents of Georgia qualify for this payment. Left out are those who did not file their tax return within the established deadlines, as well as those who did not report tax liability during the year 2024.
This means that, even though a person lives in the state, if he/she/she/it/didn't comply file taxes or doesn't generate taxes payable,/he/she will not be eligible for the refund.
The money is being distributed in phases, so some taxpayers may receive it before others, depending on the processing of their tax data.
