Anitta and Shakira accused of alleged plagiarism for “Choka Choka”
The duo Sarao maintains that the recent collaboration of the Colombian and the Brazilian has many similarities with their theme “Atomica”, released five months earlier
The Argentine duo Sarao, made up of artists Tushka and Rebebe, lit up social media by calling stars Shakira and Anitta for alleged plagiarism in their most recent single titled “Choka Choka”.
According to the public complaint made through a viral video on Instagram, which already exceeds a million views, Argentine artists maintain that the collaboration ion between the Barranquillera and the Brazilian has similarities “very similar” with their song “Atómica”, which was published five months before the premiere of “Choka Choka”.
The members of Sarao presented a detailed comparison between both productions. “Shakira and Anitta copied us,” they stated at the beginning of their video.
The claim is not limited only to the melody. The duo maintains that the visual concept and the aesthetics of the video clips are almost identical. “Even the color palette is the same,” they noted while comparing scenes of both themes.
Although they initially considered that it could be a fortuitous coincidence, the support of their followers led them to think that the problem could originate rse in the production teams. “Many agree that they may have been their producers. Capable Shakira and Anitta don't know that they are copying us,” they explained.
Despite the firmness of his accusation, Sarao acknowledged that initiating a formal legal battle would be complicated. Although they have the due song lly recorded, they admitted that technical differences in the melody make it difficult for a plagiarism lawsuit to succeed in the courts.
At this time, neither Shakira nor Anitta have issued official statements regarding these allegations.
The Argentines have taken the situation with some humor, suggesting through networks that, given the evident “inspiration”, global artists should invite them to make a collaboration.
