A tire repair kit failure led Honda to review more than a million vehicles for risk of pressure sealant ejection
Recalls are usually related to brakes, airbags or electronic systems. This time, however, Honda faces an unusual situation involving an item that many drivers hope they never have to use. This is the tire repair and inflation kit that equips several of its hybrid and fuel cell models.

The Japanese brand announced a campaign that affects more than one million vehicles due to a defect that could cause injuries during an emergency repair.

The problem is not in the tire or the compressor, but in some components of the sealing system used when a puncture occurs.
An emergency accessory under the magnifying glass
Most modern vehicles no longer feature a traditional spare wheel. To reduce weight and make better use of space, many manufacturers have chosen to include temporary repair kits that allow them to continue driving until reaching a workshop.
In the case of Honda, the investigation detected a potential risk in the kits installed in the CR-V Hybrids manufactured between 2023 and 2026, the CR-V Fuel Cell EVs from the years 2025 and 2026, and the Accord Hybrids produced between 2023 and 2026.
According to documentation filed with US highway safety authorities, the system's nozzle may incorrectly connect to the tire valve during an emergency situation. When that happens, air does not flow properly to the damaged tire.
How the failure occurs
The problem appears when pressure begins to build up inside the container containing the sealant. Some internal elements of the system would not be able to release that excess pressure in the intended way.
As a result, the container lid may suddenly detach and expel air and sealing fluid at high velocity. That scenario represents a risk to the person handling the equipment on the side of the road.
Honda confirmed that it has received eight reports of injuries related to this problem. Although the company did not detail the severity of each incident, it acknowledged that there is a real risk to users.
The solution for owners
The company has already launched the correction process and notified its dealer network during the first days of June 2026. The owners of the vehicles involved will receive an official communication by mail starting at the end of July.
The repair will be free and will consist of replacing the nozzle in the repair kit or replacing the sealant bottle, depending on the case. Additionally, the updated component eliminates a valve that was contributing to pressure buildup within the system.
Honda also reported that the fix began to be implemented in production from May 20, 2026, so units manufactured subsequently already have the solution incorporated. The measure seeks to prevent new incidents and ensure that this emergency element works safely when it is needed most.
