Volvo EX90 2026 arrives with faster charging and greater power
The 2026 Volvo EX90 debuts with a key change in its electrical architecture, which goes from 400 to 800 volts. This allows for much faster charging.
When Volvo presented the EX90 in 2025, it defined it as the beginning of a new stage in its electric strategy. The SUV arrived with the promise of combining autonomy, comfort, and the highest safety standards.

The new Volvo EX90 2026 represents another step in the transition towards premium and fully electric mobility. This is not a simple adjustment, but a technological redesign that improves the efficiency of the electrical system, reduces charging times, and increases occupant protection with unprecedented functions.
800-volt architecture: faster and more efficient charging
One of the most important changes in the EX90 2026 is the evolution of its electric platform. The model abandons the 400-volt architecture and adopts an 800-volt one, which translates into multiple benefits.
The new configuration reduces heat generation during the charging process, optimizes battery performance, and, above all, considerably reduces the time the vehicle must remain connected to a charger. Under ideal conditions, the EX90 can recover up to 155 miles of autonomy in just 10 minutes with a fast charger.
This advance places Volvo's electric SUV in the same league as other high-end competitors that already use similar systems, offering greater comfort to those who need to travel long distances with minimal charging intervals.
Performance and autonomy
In terms of power, the 2026 EX90 retains the proposal of the previous model, but with adjustments that improve efficiency. The single-engine version delivers 335 horsepower, while the dual-engine variant reaches 443 horsepower.
As for autonomy, the figures remain outstanding for the segment:The single-motor version reaches up to 355 miles on a single charge, while the dual-motor version goes up to 386 miles.
Remarkably, thanks to the new 800-volt architecture, the waiting time to reach these ranges is drastically reduced.
Next-generation safety
Safety has always been Volvo's hallmark, and the 2026 EX90 reinforces this tradition with more advanced systems. These include connected alerts that warn of slippery roads, hazards along the way, or nearby accidents.
The model also includes the Emergency Stop Assist (ESA). This system intervenes if the driver doesn't respond to the warnings and can bring the vehicle to a controlled stop in its own lane.
Once stopped, the automatic emergency call (e-call) function comes into operation, connecting the vehicle to a Volvo Cars assistance center. This technology can be crucial in unforeseen health situations while driving.
In addition, there is an improved version of the Automatic Emergency Steering Assist, designed to operate even in low visibility conditions, as well as the Park Pilot to facilitate parallel parking maneuvers.
More powerful processor with NVIDIA
Another pillar of the update is in the brain of the vehicle. The 2026 EX90 debuts a dual processor based on NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin, which reaches 500 TOPS (trillion operations per second). This improvement allows assistance and safety systems to work more quickly and precisely, increasing driver confidence.
The novelty is not limited to the 2026 model: owners of the 2025 EX90 will also receive a free processor upgrade. To do so, they must schedule a visit to an official Volvo workshop, where the new control unit will be installed.
Comfort Innovations
The 2026 EX90 not only focuses on power and safety. The SUV adds an electrochromic panoramic roof, which allows the level of glass transparency to be adjusted according to the occupants' preference or lighting conditions. This innovation contributes to a more personalized experience inside, maintaining Volvo's focus on premium comfort.
The new 2026 Volvo EX90 is now available for pre-orders. The brand confirmed that the first deliveries will begin during the first quarter of 2026.
Although the final price has not yet been revealed, it is expected to be around $82,000, a figure very similar to that of the current model. Production remains at the Ridgeville plant in South Carolina, ensuring continuity in the manufacturing chain for the North American market.
