Kanye West's European tour plummets: Rapper's concert in Poland canceled

What was intended to be the grand return of Kanye West, now known as Ye, to European stages appears to be sinking in a domino effect of cancellations and political roadblocks.
The administrators of Silesian Stadium in Chorzow announced this Friday the definitive cancellation of the rapper's concert scheduled for the June 19, after strong pressure from the Polish government.
The decision is based on “formal and legal” grounds, but the underlying reason is ethical and political. Poland’s Minister of Culture, Marta Cienkowska, was adamant in declaring that the country cannot host an artist who has openly expressed his admiration for Adolf Hitler.
“I cannot imagine that in Poland, a country where people were murdered in Nazi extermination camps, we would organize a concert by someone who promotes that ideology and profits from swastikas,” the official stated at a press conference.
A ban that extends across Europe
This setback in Poland is not an isolated case. Recently, the United Kingdom also barred the rapper from entering the country, where he was scheduled to perform at London’s Wireless Festival. On that occasion, the British Home Office, backed by Prime Minister Keir Starmer, argued that West's presence "would not be beneficial to the public good."
Although the artist has tried to justify his antisemitic statements as a consequence of mental health crises and bipolar episodes, European institutions are demonstrating a policy of "zero tolerance."
This week, the rapper also announced the indefinite postponement of his upcoming concert in Marseille, France, following an intense legal and political offensive led by the French government to prevent his performance on French soil.
The tour, managed by the organizer Projekt Ha?as!, included dates in seven other countries that are now shrouded in uncertainty.
