Scholarship will not be given to the students studying in class one to eight in madrassas of the state from the academic session 2022-23. The Central Government has issued instructions in this regard. Last year, about six lakh students studying in madrassas up to class VIII got scholarship.
One thousand rupees are given to the students of classes one to five in a year, while the amount of scholarship for classes six to eight is different. The Central Government has said that under the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, education from first to eighth grade has been made free. That's why there is no justification for giving scholarship to children up to class VIII. Now the pre-matric scholarship will be available only to the eligible students of class 9th and 10th.
Like the schools of the Basic Education Council, midday meals, uniforms, books are given free of cost to the students of classes one to eight in Madrasas. Earlier, students of council schools up to class VIII also got scholarship. However, it was closed a few years back after education up to class VIII was made free under the Right to Education Act.
In the order issued by the Minority Department, it has been said that under the Right to Education, education from class one to eight is free. Other essential items are also given to the students. That's why only the students of class 9th and 10th will be given scholarship and their applications should be forwarded.
