Woman arrested in Texas after finding her son with a bottle of wine and without supervision
Ebony Maddox faces charges of child endangerment, a felony under the Texas Penal Code
A 24-year-old woman was arrested in northeast Harris County, Texas, after one of her young children was found unsupervised and holding a bottle of wine, authorities reported Tuesday.
Ebony Maddox faces charges of child endangerment, a felony under the Texas Penal Code Texas.
The incident occurred at an apartment complex located at 12300 Tidwell Road, where officers from Harris County Sheriff's Office Precinct 3, led by Chief Sherman Eagleton, responded to a call from the father of one of the children.
According to court documents, upon arriving at the scene, officers were greeted by a four-year-old boy, who allowed them access to the apartment. Inside, officers found one of the two children—ages four and two—holding an open bottle of wine and with no adult present.
Maddox was located by phone and stated she was about 20 minutes away from the apartment, indicating she had left the children in the care of a friend. However, when police arrived on the scene, no adults were present.
Child Protective Services intervened and placed the children in the care of their paternal grandmother. Maddox was arrested at the scene.
Chief Eagleton reminded that, according to state law, “leaving a child under the age of 15 unsupervised under circumstances that pose a substantial risk of harm may result in charges of abandonment or endangering the life of a child.”
The investigation is ongoing, and Maddox is expected to appear before a judge in the coming days.
