Democrat Xavier Becerra and Republican Steve Hilton are fighting inch by inch for the lead in the race for governor of California after the first results of the primaries that take place this Tuesday, June 2, were announced.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Becerra was leading the partial count, with 26.7%, shortly after 8:15 p.m., in his first partial results.
Becerra had a slim lead over Republican Steve Hilton, who from pre-primary polls stood out as Becerra's strongest contender. The former Fox News host was second, with 26% of the votes.
