Antonio Brown receives bail and a GPS monitor in Miami for attempted homicide
Antonio Brown could face up to 15 years and $10,000 for attempted homicide
Former NFL player Antonio Brown will be released on $25,000 bail and will have to wear a GPS ankle monitor, a judge in Florida ruled Wednesday, as he faces a serious charge of second-degree attempted homicide.
Brown, 37, pleaded not guilty to the charge, which carries a possible sentence of up to 15 years in prison and a $10,000 fine if found guilty.
His attorney, Mark Eiglarsh, confirmed that the former catcher will return to his home in Broward County, Florida, while the legal process continues.
“He no longer has a passport and will live at his residence. I look forward to working with him intensively on this case,” the attorney told Judge Mindy Glazer during the bail hearing.
The Antonio Brown Case
According to the arrest warrant, the incident occurred on May 16 after a fistfight at a celebrity boxing event in Miami.
Brown allegedly took a gun from a member of the security staff and fired twice at a man identified as Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, who claimed that one of the bullets grazed his neck.
Brown's defense, however, maintains that the information is incorrect and that the The former player used his own weapon, without pointing it at anyone.
“It was my client’s gun, and the shots were not directed at any person,” Eiglarsh stated.
Brown denies fleeing and claims he acted in self-defense
On social media, Antonio Brown explained that he acted in self-defense, claiming he was “attacked by several individuals who attempted to steal his jewelry and cause him physical harm.”
The former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver had been living in Dubai for the past few months, which led prosecutors to request his pretrial detention, arguing that he had the means to flee.
However, his lawyer stated that Brown did not flee, but rather “always intended to voluntarily turn himself in to the authorities.”
