A confrontation between alleged members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) and a cell of the Knights Templar left five people dead and two more injured in the municipality of Zamora, Michoacán, state authorities reported.

According to local media such as La Voz de Michoacán, neighbors reported firearm detonations inside a home.

After the complaint, security elements went to the site and located the bodies of four men and a woman, in addition to two injured people who received medical attention.

The attorney general of Michoacán, Carlos Torres Piña, pointed out that the first investigations indicate that the attack was perpetrated by an armed group linked to the Knights Templar.

According to the authorities, the attack would be related to the territorial dispute between that criminal organization and the CJNG in various regions of the state.

In addition, they indicated that the attackers descended from a nearby mountain area to carry out the attack. The State Prosecutor's Office maintains several lines of investigation open to determine the identity of the victims and clarify the circumstances of the confrontation.

This new episode of violence occurs in the midst of an escalation of conflicts between criminal groups seeking to control strategic territories in Michoacán, an entity that in recent months has recorded various armed confrontations related to the dispute between criminal organizations.

State and federal authorities reinforced the presence of security forces in the area to prevent new violent events and follow up on the corresponding investigations.
