Double murder in Pembroke Pines, Florida: Grandson of the owner of the house under arrest
Isaiah Collins was arrested after a chase in Miami Gardens. He is accused of the murder of Octavis Anthony Myers and an as yet unidentified woman.
Authorities confirmed on Sunday the arrest of 27-year-old Isaiah Collins, the prime suspect in the murder of two people found dead in a local home in Pembroke Pines, Florida.
Collins, wanted since September 10, was detected by a off-duty sheriff's deputy in a Miami Gardens park. When confronted, he attempted to escape by crossing the Florida Turnpike on foot, jumping into a canal, and eventually climbing a tree, where he was surrounded by officers.
Although a weapon has not yet been recovered, divers are inspecting the canal through which the suspect fled. The magnitude of the operation was noticeable to drivers on the highway due to the presence of forensic units and detectives.
The discovery of the bodies
The case dates back to September 10, when officers from the Pembroke Pines Police Department responded to a 911 call regarding an unconscious man in the garage of a home located at 1730 NW 109th Avenue.
At the scene, they found the body of Octavis Anthony Myers, who had been deceased for some time. During the search of the home, they also found the body of a woman in one of the bedrooms, whose identity has not been released.
Suspect near the residence
Collins, the grandson of the homeowner, frequently resided there. Initially, authorities expressed concern for his safety, as they did not know his whereabouts. However, as the investigation progressed, evidence emerged directly linking him to the double homicide.
He now faces two counts of first-degree murder with a firearm, investigators confirmed.
Pembroke Pines police are asking for public assistance in providing additional information that will help strengthen the case against Collins.
