Fugitive driver runs over and kills pregnant woman in Illinois

Waukegan, Illinois, police are searching for the driver who fatally ran over Michelle Heidbrick, a 36-year-old pregnant woman and mother of a teenager. The suspect fled the scene following the crash Sunday night.
The Waukegan Police Department reported the crash occurred around 9:34 pm Sunday when a woman was struck while crossing the street.
The victim was identified as 36-year-old Michelle Heidbrick, who was found with critical injuries by responding police and firefighters.
The victim died at the hospital
Heidbrick was taken to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead. in the emergency room, according to a police statement.
Preliminary autopsy results confirmed the woman died of blunt force injuries.
Authorities also confirmed Heidbrick was in her second trimester of pregnancy.
Her sister, Nicole Heidbrick, told ABC Chicago that the victim was excited about the baby's arrival: "I She called last week and was excited. She said, 'Nicole, I felt the baby's first kick.'"
The family also noted that Michelle was a "sweet" person and that she leaves behind her teenage son.
Driver at large
Police said the responsible driver fled the scene before officers arrived.
The Waukegan Major Accident Unit is maintaining an open investigation, and the family is demanding that "someone come forward" with answers about the case.
