Amanda Miguel and Belinda move the audience with a heartbreaking performance of He Lied to Me
Belinda and the iconic Amanda Miguel reunited in Los Angeles for a special screening of Mentiras, La Serie
In the middle of 2025, the success of 'Mentiras, La Serie' has shown that '80s nostalgia has an unstoppable power. What began as a bold project on Prime Video has become a bona fide cultural phenomenon, reviving '80s classics and putting them in the mouths of new generations. From 'Pobre Secretaria' to 'El Me Mentio', the songs in the series are conquering playlists, rekindling a love for ballads that defined an era.
During a special screening of the series in Los Angeles, Amanda Miguel not only applauded Belinda's work, but also left her speechless (and almost in tears) with her praise: You sing beautifully, you did very well, and you're just now showing what you can truly do.
The so-called Princess of Pop couldn't contain her emotion upon receiving recognition from one of the most iconic voices in Spanish-language music.
The affection was mutual, as Belinda responded with a sincere, "We love you, we admire you, and you are the best." To cap off the evening, the two surprised the audience with an improvised duet of "He Lied to Me," a moment that quickly went viral on social media.
An Unexpected Hit
Who would have thought that songs like "Pobre Secretaria," originally performed by Daniela Romo, would once again be among the top 50 most listened to on Spotify Mexico, now sung by Mariana Trevino? The series, based on the musical by Jose Manuel Lopez Velarde and produced by Luis Gerardo Méndez, has achieved the impossible: making new audiences fall in love with songs that their parents (or even grandparents) sang along to decades ago.
But it's not just the streams that are talking: the cast and original artists are celebrating this musical renaissance. One of the most emotional moments occurred when Amanda Miguel, a legend of the romantic ballad, publicly praised Belinda for her performance in the series.
The impact of Mentiras, La Serie is not limited to just the music. Warner Music presented a plaque to Belinda and Luis Gerardo Mendez for surpassing 100 million streams of the soundtrack, which includes hits by Yuri, Dulce, Emmanuel, and more.
But the project has also served as a respite in difficult times. During the event, Mendez expressed her support for migrants in California, a state affected by Donald Trump's anti-immigrant policies: We are very aware of what is happening... having the opportunity to bring them a little comfort through nostalgia is very special.
