Accused of the murder of actor James Handy is declared “unfit” to stand trial
It was revealed that Michael Gledhill, son of the deceased actor's partner, was declared unable to collaborate with his defense to carry out the trial.
The case investigating the murder of actor James Handy, from “Top Gun: Maverick”, has taken an unexpected turn that puts the Los Angeles Justice Department on the ropes. And it was recently announced that Michael Gledhill, accused of taking the actor's life, is not mentally fit to face criminal proceedings.
According to Judge Maria Cavalluzzi's verdict, the 44-year-old individual does not understand the charges against him nor can he rationally collaborate with his defense.
During the scheduled charging hearing on June 5, it was revealed that psychiatric evaluations determined that Gledhill was not fit to stand trial or make appropriate decisions about his medication.
The same evaluation suggested that, if he underwent appropriate pharmacological treatment, his condition could improve. For this reason, Judge Maria Cavalluzzi referred the case to a court specialized in mental health.
This diagnosis has led to the judicial procedure being suspended until further notice.
The arrest and formal charge against Michael Gledhill occurred after he admitted to being the person behind the death of James Handy. This confession took place on June 3, when the young man in question called the police through 911.
“I am the son of man, I have just killed the man of sin,” is the phrase listed in the police report and cited by AP.
According to information recovered by Infobae, Michael Gledhill's next court appearance was set for July 14, the date on which his possible admission to a long-term mental health center will be analyzed.
If he regains the necessary mental fitness to face a trial, the criminal process could be resumed in accordance with the order of the judge on duty.
