In the Aryan Khan drugs case, son of Bollywood actor Shahrukh Khan, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has again called former zonal director of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Sameer Wankhede in Mumbai for questioning on Sunday.
Wankhede has been booked by the CBI for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 25 crore to frame Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan's son Aryan Khan in the drugs-on-cruise case. The agency had also questioned him for five hours on Saturday. The agency said the deal was fixed for Rs 18 crore and Wankhede's wealth was disproportionate to his known sources of income.
Sameer Wankhede on Friday approached the Bombay High Court against the action of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the alleged bribery case in the drugs-on-cruise case involving actor Shah Rukh Khan's son Aryan Khan. The Bombay High Court will hear the matter on May 22. Significantly, the High Court had given protection from arrest to Wankhede till May 22.
The central agency had on May 11 registered a case against Wankhede and four others on a complaint by the NCB under provisions related to bribery under the Prevention of Corruption Act, besides alleged criminal conspiracy and threats of extortion.
Seeking quashing of FIR, Wankhede alleges before HC that Aryan Khan was named as an accused in 'draft complaint' in 2021 drugs-on-cruise case, but later changed And Aryan's name was removed.
Apart from this, his petition also provided transcriptions of Aryan's phone chats with Shah Rukh Khan during his stay in NCB custody. It cited Khan as being kind to his son from Wankhede and praising the officer for his "honesty". Aryan was arrested by the NCB here on October 3, 2021, after allegedly seizing narcotics onboard the Cordelia cruise ship.
He was granted bail by the High Court three weeks later as the anti-drugs agency had failed to prove its allegations against him. The CBI alleged that the Mumbai zone of the NCB had received information about the consumption and possession of narcotics by various persons on a cruise ship in October 2021 and that certain officers of the NCB conspired to receive bribes from the accused in exchange for their release .
