Becky G joins the celebrities who have raised their voices against the immigration raids
The singer, who is the granddaughter of Mexican migrants, launched a desperate cry in support of the migrant community in California
The Californian singer Becky G, 28, recently joined the voices that have raised their voices against the immigration raids carried out in the city of Los Angeles.
Through a In her Instagram post, the singer, who is the granddaughter of Mexicans, expressed solidarity with the families who have suffered persecution or the detention of a relative in raids carried out by ICE.
She accompanied her post with various photographs in the company of her grandparents, who left the state of Jalisco in search of a better future on the northern border.
“The most American thing about me is that I am the proud granddaughter of immigrants. My dreams are based on their sacrifices, tears, love, and faith in the opportunity that this country promised. They are the reason I am here today. When you see me, you see them,” reads the text with which Rebbeca Marie Gomez, as is her real name, accompanied her photo gallery.
The singer of 'Sin Pijama' then lamented the treatment that the migrant population is receiving, stating that they are being treated like criminals and not like people.
“Innocent and hardworking people deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. The people attacked today are not “illegal immigrants,” they are human beings with RIGHTS. We must understand that an attack against them is an attack on OUR DEMOCRACY and an attack on what this country was created to represent,” Becky G continued in her extensive text.
In the same communication, she detailed that she supports and endorses the way in which a certain part of the population has raised their voices to defend themselves or their own, so she regretted that they are being singled out as the problem.
“I am disappointed by the media’s misrepresentation of what the Los Angeles community stands for. There is a yearning for common decency in practice and respect for all human life. We want safety and protection for our immigrant community,in a country where the right to peaceful protest has constantly changed the course of history. Our hearts are broken, but our spirit and our will to fight are not. We who are privileged to have been born here must continue to speak out!" she noted.
In addition to sharing the moments she experienced with her migrant grandparents, the famous artist also included a list of the constitutional rights that migrants have, just like any other citizen, as well as the names of some of the organizations they can turn to if they have any questions.
