Children of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt advance in the process to remove the actor's last name
The ex-couple's oldest children published official notices in California, a requirement to formalize their legal name change requests
A new chapter in the fracture of the Jolie-Pitt dynasty is consolidated in the judicial field. Zahara and Maddox, adopted children of renowned actors Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, took a decisive step in their respective legal procedures to change their names and permanently eliminate their father's last name, as revealed by California court documents.
Both young men formally complied with the strict protocol of local legislation by publishing official notices of their intentions in the written press.
Maddox, 24, made his publication last Tuesday, July 7 in the Los Angeles Daily Journal, while Zahara, 21, did the same on Thursday, July 9 in the same media outlet. With this action, the petitions seek to formalize that their identities are registered only as “Maddox Chivan Jolie” and “Zahara Marley Jolie.”
Although the applications are still awaiting final approval from a magistrate, the judicial calendar already has the necessary hearings set to complete the process. Maddox's court date was scheduled for September 14, while Zahara's appearance will take place on September 28.
This legal movement represents the formalization of a distance that was already evident in the public realm. Zahara recently graduated with a degree in Psychology from Spelman College; Although the May 2026 graduation program listed her with her compound last name, when she took the stage to receive her diploma she was formally presented with only her mother's last name.
Similarly, Maddox had already dispensed with the last name Pitt in the film credits of the film “Couture,” where he served as assistant director.
The resolution of the older siblings follows the path of Shiloh, who obtained legal approval to be called only Shiloh Jolie in August 2024, after reaching the age of majority, and Vivienne, who also omitted her paternal surname in her credits for the Broadway musical “The Outsiders.”
