The singer appeared before the Federal Court of California to conclude the legal process he has faced since 2024 for alleged links to drug trafficking
Just a few months after pleading guilty to alleged links to drug trafficking, singer Gerardo Ortiz obtained a legal victory by being sentenced to three years of supervised freedom for his collaboration with the FBI.
In a hearing held at the Federal Court of California, Judge Maame Ewusi Frimpong read the sentence that formally closed the case that had been open since 2014, when U.S. authorities accused him of conducting transactions with a company linked to organized crime.
According to initial reports, the sentence grants him three years of supervised release, a decision supported by an agreement between Gerardo Ortiz's legal team and the prosecution for his cooperation with the FBI.
As part of the agreement, the Mexican singer agreed to cooperate with the federal bureau in the case against his former manager, Angel del Villar, who currently faces 11 charges in the United States.
It was also established that the artist must pay a fine of $1,500,000 (which translates to almost 30 million Mexican pesos).
