J Balvin and Bad Gyal stand out in the best albums of 2026, according to Rolling Stone
The Latin talent stands out in the list of the best albums of the year, consolidating its presence on the global scene in mid-2026
Rolling Stone magazine has launched its list of “Best Albums so far in 2026” and Latin talent has been present through artists such as: J Balvin, Ryan Castro, Bad Gyal, Tokischa, Rawayana, Trueno and Julieta Venegas.
In the middle of the year, the music media has released a list that brings together the most notable releases of the year globally. In addition to seeing stars like BTS, Olivia Rodrigo, Harry Styles, Lucinda Williams, Drake and A$AP Rocky shine, the Latin music scene scored a new triumph with the mention of some of its representatives.
Colombians J Balvin and Ryan Castro joined this musical celebration for their joint album, “Omerta.” In their description of this work, experts assure that the album “is perceived as a natural evolution of the close friendship between the two.”
“The album covers the genres that define each artist: rock, dancehall and, of course, reggaeton, reflecting the trust that these collaborators have placed in each other,” says Maya Georgi magazine critic.
Likewise, Rolling Stone named Bad Gyal’s “Más Cara” as one of the best albums of 2026. In its description, it said: “It exudes a constant sense of VIP luxury, from the sensual elegance of the neo-bachata ‘Da Me’ to the delicate synth flourishes on the EDM-influenced ‘Fa$hion Killa’.”
For her part, the Mexican Julieta Venegas was recognized for her album “Norteña”, while Álvaro Díaz for “Omakase” and Rawayana for “Where Es El After?” Argentine Trueno debuted on the list with “TURR4ZO”.
The recognition represents a new achievement for Latin music, which in recent years has managed to position itself as one of the most acclaimed and influential.
Just this week, the Recording Academy announced a series of changes for the 69th Grammy Awards, most notably the creation of a new category: “Best Latin Song.”
According to the statement, the new award will be intended to recognize the work of the composers behind the songs. According to the revealed criteria, unreleased songs whose lyrics are written at least 51% in Spanish may compete.
