Selena Gomez responded to those who accused her of insulting Taylor Swift
The actress and singer assured that her comment on social networks was just a sporting provocation directed at her close friends.
A simple comment on social media unleashed a wave of accusations against Selena Gomez, forcing the star of “Only Murders in the Building” to come forward to defend her integrity and her relationship with her friends, including star Taylor Swift.
The controversy began after an MTV post on Instagram that showed several celebrities celebrating at the NBA finals. Swift was celebrating the New York Knicks' victory over the San Antonio Spurs, a team of which Gomez is a fan. Upon seeing the content, the Rare Beauty founder left a comment that read: “Lol.”
Internet users were quick to misinterpret the message, calling it a snub toward Swift.
Tension increased when Gomez posted on her Instagram stories: “How funny that some of them are suddenly fans, lol,” referring to the intense comeback match that followed from London.
Given the avalanche of messages and speculation, the artist used her platforms to clarify the situation.
“I would never insult my friends, nor was it an insult,” Gómez stated, explaining that his expression was a spontaneous reaction to the first image of the post and not an attack.
Likewise, the interpreter revealed that everything was due to an internal competitive dynamic. "I bet with my friends on the game... I lost, but I was provoking my rivals, my friends. Believe it or not, I have other friends in my life," he pointed out, regretting that the public assumes non-existent rivalries.
To close the misunderstanding, Gomez took the drama out of the matter with a direct phrase: “Besides, it's a basketball game.”
