Teyana Taylor speaks after her altercation with a security guard at the 2026 Oscars
The actress, nominated for Best Supporting Actress, spoke with TMZ after a video of the argument went viral on social media
The 2026 Oscars ceremony, held on Sunday, surprised with several moments, and one of them went viral: Actress Teyana Taylor's altercation with a security guard at the ceremony. In an exclusive interview with TMZ on Sunday night, Taylor addressed the incident, stating that her reaction was a response to what she considered an unfair attitude. “I think the first thing people do is jump to conclusions, but ultimately, I don't tolerate disrespect, especially when it's unjustified and unprovoked,” the star said. Despite the tension of the moment, the actress tried to downplay the conflict: “Nothing to be surprised about,” Taylor commented, adding, “Everything's fine. Everyone's having a good time, and the security staff was very attentive. There are always a few issues. But everything's fine. I'm happy.” What sparked the fight? According to a source who witnessed the events and spoke with Variety, the argument erupted just after “One Battle After Another” was announced as Best Picture. Amid the euphoria, the cast and crew, including Warner Bros. executives Pam Abdy and Mike DeLuca, attempted to go on stage for a group photo. The source's version states that "Teyana went down to find Pam, and when she tried to go back up, a security guard forcibly prevented them from returning to the stage and put their hands on Teyana." The situation reportedly escalated when the guard, according to the testimony, told Taylor, "You owe me an apology," which further angered the actress. The security company's response: Following the viral spread of the video and the conflicting accounts, Security Industry Specialists, Inc., the company responsible for security at the event, issued an apology through Variety. The company explained: "Our security personnel were working to control a busy area and ensure the safety of all visitors. During that interaction, an accidental contact occurred, and we regret that the situation escalated."
In its statement, the company acknowledged the lack of professionalism: “This is not the level of professionalism we expect from our team, and we have addressed the matter internally to ensure that situations like this do not happen again."
For Teyana Taylor, Oscar night was an emotional rollercoaster. The actress was nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category for her role in “One Battle After Another,” although the award ultimately went to Amy Madigan for “Weapons.”
However, the biggest surprise of the night came at the end, when her film won the most important award: Best Picture, beating out titles such as “Sinners,” “Hamnet,” and “Marty Supreme.” The film, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, ended the night with six statuettes out of thirteen nominations, including Best Director for Anderson, Best Supporting Actor for Sean Penn, Best Ensemble Cast, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Editing.
