Mexico boasts one of the best defenses of the 2026 World Cup: only El Tri and 3 other teams have not conceded a goal
The Mexican team shares exclusive information with Argentina, Spain and Ghana after two days of the 2026 World Cup.
The group stage of the 2026 World Cup is advancing and, after two days played, only four teams can boast a perfect defensive statistic. Mexico, Argentina, Spain and Ghana are the only teams that have not yet conceded a goal in the tournament, a reflection of the solidity they have shown in their first matches.
Among the 48 participating teams, no other team has managed to keep its goal intact after two games, making these four teams defensive benchmarks in the competition.
Mexico is among the strongest defenses in the World Cup
The Mexican team has built its good start from the defensive order. The national team beat South Africa 2-0 and later beat South Korea 1-0, results that allowed them to add six points without conceding a score.
One of the key figures has been Raúl “Tala” Rangel, who responded when required and accumulated four decisive interventions in the two matches played.
Defensive performance has become one of the main strengths of the Mexican team in this World Cup.
Argentina, Spain and Ghana complete the elite group
The current world champion is also part of this exclusive list.
Argentina defeated Algeria 3-0 and Austria 2-0, with minimal participation by Emiliano Martínez, who barely needed to make a save to keep his clean sheet.
For its part, Spain drew goalless against Cape Verde and later beat Saudi Arabia 4-0. During those meetings, Unai Simón recorded three interventions.
The fourth team that remains undefeated in defense is Ghana, which beat Panama 1-0 and drew 0-0 with England. Their goalkeeper, Benjamín Asare, has seven saves in the competition.
The teams with the fewest goals conceded in the 2026 World Cup
Behind the four teams that have not conceded goals appears a group of teams that have only allowed one goal in two days.
In that block, the United States, Canada, Brazil, Morocco, Scotland, Colombia, Ecuador, Portugal, Belgium and France stand out, which have also shown an outstanding defensive performance at the start of the tournament.
The difference between advancing or being eliminated is often defined by small details, and keeping the goal protected has become an important advantage heading into the knockout phase.
Tunisia and Uzbekistan, the most punished defenses
At the opposite extreme are the teams that have suffered the most in defense.
Tunisia is the team with the most goals conceded so far, with nine goals conceded in two games. Very close is Uzbekistan, which has allowed eight goals.
Qatar, Iraq and Curacao are also among the most vulnerable defenses, with seven goals conceded, as well as Sweden and Senegal, who have accumulated six.
The goalkeepers with the most work in the World Cup
FIFA statistics also reflect which goalkeepers were most in demand during the group stage.
Curacao leads the section with 20 saves made by their goalkeepers, followed by Saudi Arabia with 14 and Iran with 13.
In contrast, the defensive security of teams like Mexico, Argentina, Spain and Ghana has allowed their goalkeepers to face much more controlled matches.
With one day left to close the group stage, these four teams are the only ones that keep their goal intact, a credential that could be decisive in the fight to advance to the direct elimination rounds of the 2026 World Cup.
