The Assam Police on Tuesday arrested expelled BJP leader Anurag Chaliha in connection with the death of a woman colleague of the party. Last week, a woman leader of the BJP committed suicide after her private photographs were leaked. Chaliha was expelled from the party after his name cropped up in the matter. According to media reports, Chaliha was arrested on Monday night.
The woman leader of the Assam BJP was found dead at her Guwahati home on 11 August. The police said that he had died due to consuming an overdose. Both the woman and Chaliha are residents of Golaghat district. She was also the general secretary of the Mahila Party Frontal Organization. He was expelled from the party after Anurag Chaliha's name cropped up in the initial investigation of the case. Police said Chaliha was living as a tenant at the woman's house in Golaghat and the woman's family blamed him for her suicide.
A senior Assam Police official said the woman's family had lodged a complaint against Chaliha at the Chandmari police station in Guwahati. Police have registered a case against Anurag Chaliha under IPC sections 120B (criminal conspiracy), 306 (abetment of suicide) and 384 (extortion).
Location was found in Shivsagar district
Chahila went missing after the case was registered. The police officer said that during the investigation his mobile and social media accounts were tracked and his location in Sivasagar district was traced. After this, with the help of the local police, we arrested him on Monday night. According to the police, both were in a relationship for some time in the past. During this, Chaliha had threatened to leak the pictures after the rift. Meanwhile, after the pictures were leaked, the woman took the extreme step.
NCB arrested seven people with banned drugs
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has got great success in the Northeast. The NCB has busted an international smuggling racket with the arrest of seven people with banned drugs. NCB officials said on Tuesday that the racket involved illegal trade of banned drug Pseudoephedrine from India to Myanmar. 110.5 kg of pseudoephedrine in tablet form was seized from the possession of the apprehended smugglers.
The NCB said in a statement that the kingpin of this drug racket, Mohammad Abdul Vakil, who is a graduate and MBA from Jamia Millia Islamia, has been arrested. Apart from this, two employees of Recover Healthcare, Nitin Kumar Panchal and Anilbhai Nayak have been arrested. who were tasked with placing orders for pseudoephedrine and engaging in fraudulent labeling of products. The mastermind behind the misuse of pseudoephedrine has been identified as Bhadresh Patel, owner of Ahmedabad-based Recover Healthcare, who was later arrested.
