The Delhi HC has reserved its decision on whether or not to uphold the death sentence of Ariz Khan, convicted of killing Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma in the 2008 Batla House encounter. In March 2021, the lower court sentenced Ariz Khan to death. For confirmation of this sentence, the Delhi Police had approached the Delhi High Court. At the same time, Ariz also challenged the decision of the lower court in the Delhi HC.
After the completion of the hearing of the Batla House encounter case, the bench of Justice Siddharth Mridul and Justice Amit Sharma has reserved the verdict. On September 19, 2008, Inspector Mohan Chandra Sharma of Delhi Police's Special Cell was hit by three bullets while nabbing five suspected terrorists hiding in Batla House in south Delhi's Jamia Nagar.
Batla House encounter was challenging
Later, during treatment, he died in the hospital. He has been awarded the President's Medal seven times. The Batla House encounter is one of the most challenging encounters in India on which a film has also been made.
39 people died
Two terrorists were also killed in the encounter that followed the five serial blasts in the national capital. 39 people were killed and 159 were injured in this bomb blast. Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma raided the place in search of the terrorists responsible for the blasts.
