Netanyahu confirms that he will run in the next elections in Israel
Netanyahu is the president who has remained in office the longest in Israel, which he has held almost uninterruptedly since 2009.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he plans to run in elections this year, despite criticism he faces for his handling of the war in the Middle East.
“I am going to run for office and I intend to win,” he expressed in a press conference broadcast on television, in what were his first statements since the United States and the Iranian regime announced that they had reached an agreement to end the conflict.
Leaders from across Israel's political spectrum criticized the points of the peace agreement on Monday because they believe it does not benefit the country.
Naftali Bennett, former prime minister and leading candidate in the upcoming election, said it marked a “dangerous turn for Israel's security.”
Netanyahu has been at the head of the Israeli government for almost two decades without interruption. Earlier this year, he revealed that he underwent surgery in which a “small, early-stage malignant tumor” was removed from his prostate.
