These accused, residents of Bihar, including four men and one woman, were remanded to judicial custody until May 3 by the court. The arrests were made by the EOU team in collaboration with the Bihar Police, with the accused being apprehended from Ujjain. The EOU intends to seek remand for further investigation during the next court hearing scheduled for Tuesday.

The apprehension of these individuals marks a breakthrough in the ongoing investigation into the paper leak scandal, with significant revelations emerging during their interrogation. The arrested individuals, identified as Pradeep Kumar, Balli alias Sandeep Kumar, Shivam Kumar alias Doctor Shivam, Tej Prakash, and Soumya Kumari, were taken into custody from a hotel in Ujjain on Friday based on confidential information received by the EOU.

The paper leak scandal, which pertains to the teacher recruitment examination held on March 15, has ramifications across several states, including Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh. The investigation team uncovered links to the printing press in Kolkata, as well as connections to competitive examinations in other states. Notably, Dr. Shiv Kumar alias Bittu from Nagarnausa (Nalanda) has been identified as a key figure in the scandal, having allegedly orchestrated paper leaks in various government examinations.

Dr. Shiv Kumar's involvement extends beyond the teacher recruitment examination, with his name cropping up in previous instances of paper leaks, including the NEET-UG exam paper leak of 2017 and the constable recruitment examination conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC). The inter-state network orchestrated by Dr. Shiv and his associates spans several states, with connections to Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Odisha, and West Bengal.

In a related development, the EOU had previously conducted raids in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand, resulting in the arrest of 268 individuals in connection with the teacher reinstatement paper leak. Subsequent investigations and intelligence gathering led to the identification of the accused in Ujjain, where they were apprehended.
