June will be drenched with rain, Weather Department predicts, clouds will rain heavily throughout the monsoon season
IMD Rain Forecast: IMD said that India will receive more than normal rainfall in June, which is 108 percent of the long-term average.
New Delhi: India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Tuesday that India will receive more than normal rainfall in June. Rainfall is expected to be 108 per cent of the long period average. The weather department said that the country may receive 106 per cent of the long period average of 87 cm during the entire monsoon season.
At a press conference, M Ravichandran, Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences, said that the monsoon core zone is expected to receive above normal (more than 106 per cent of the long period average) rainfall this season.
The monsoon core zone includes Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Odisha and adjoining areas. The region receives most of its rainfall during the southwest monsoon and is heavily dependent on it for agriculture.
Northwest India is likely to receive normal rainfall, while the Northeast may receive below normal rainfall. IMD Director General Mrityunjay Mahapatra said that central and south peninsular India are expected to record above normal rainfall.
