Karnataka: In the fight against terrorism in Karnataka, Shivamogga Police has got a big success today. In fact, in Shivamogga, the police have arrested three suspects on charges of terrorism. The police claim that all of them were wanted in the case of increasing the activities of the banned Islamic State (ISIS).

The police alleged that the gang members were in the process of procuring explosives and were planning to carry out blasts across the state. Police have automatically registered a case against Shivamogga residents Sharik, Maji and Saeed Yasin under Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). According to the police FIR, the gang members were planning to increase the activities of Islamic State, which is against the unity, integrity and sovereignty of India.

Karnataka Home Minister Arga Gyanendra said that all three have links with Islamic State. He said that their activities are being thoroughly probed. They are residents of Shivamogga and Tirthahalli and belong to Mangaluru.

At the same time, according to media reports, police sources claimed that the arrested persons have taken training in terrorist activities including blasting. If sources are to be believed, the kingpin Yasin is being arrested and interrogated. Yasin is an electrical engineer by profession.

It is worth mentioning that Shivamogga had come into the limelight earlier this year when Hindutva activist Harsh was murdered amid the hijab controversy. Clashes were reported from the city in August when some right-wing members put up posters of Hindutva ideologue Vinayak Damodar Savarkar and some Muslims protested. During the clash, a 20-year-old youth was badly injured after being attacked with a knife. Gyanendra, a resident of Shivamogga district, claimed that one of the arrested suspects belonged to a Pakistan-based terrorist group.
