Karnataka: Zika virus found in mosquitoes, health department alert; Minister Dinesh Rao said - no need to panic

Zika virus has been found in a species of mosquitoes in Chikkaballapura district of Karnataka. An official confirmed this on Thursday. Blood samples of people suffering from high fever have been sent to the National Institute of Virology for testing. Giving information about the matter, the officer said that samples were collected from six reservoirs in Chikkaballapura. These samples were sent for testing. After which Zika virus has been detected in Aedes aegypti mosquitoes.
Officials also stressed that the virus has been found only in mosquito samples collected from the Talkayalabetta reservoir. No cases have been reported among the people yet. On this matter, Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao said, Zika virus has not been confirmed in any person. Don't be afraid of Zika virus. We will keep an eye on the situation. Some people were showing some symptoms like fever. He has been kept in the hospital and examined.
Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao said, we need to exercise caution only on pregnant women. I request people not to panic about this. Our department is keeping a close eye on this.
Chikkaballapura District Health Officer Dr Mahesh Kumar said, a state government team had collected samples of mosquitoes from six places, the report of which we received on October 25. According to reports, mosquito samples collected from five locations were tested negative, but samples collected from Thalakayalabetta reservoir in Shidlaghatta taluk were found positive for Zika virus.
