Justin Baldoni and his wife speak for the first time about the legal conflict with Blake Lively
In a video posted on their social networks, Justin Baldoni and his wife explained what “the trauma” meant to them.
Actor Justin Baldoni and his wife, Emily, spoke for the first time about the legal battle with his “It Ends With Us” co-star Blake Lively.
In a video posted on Instagram, the couple spoke about the “trauma,” “injustice,” and the healing process they have experienced, while expressing their “immense gratitude” to those who supported them during this difficult chapter.
Starting the video, Justin Baldoni explained that they and his wife have decided not to speak publicly for most of the last two years, despite having a lot to say.
He pointed out that, although on several occasions they felt the need to do so, something told them that it was not the right time. Emily Baldoni added that this finally felt like the right time to speak.
The legal context
The dispute originated in late 2024, when Lively filed a lawsuit against Baldoni and his production company, Wayfarer Studios, alleging sexual harassment and a smear campaign against her during the production of the film “It Ends With Us,” in which Baldoni was director and co-star. Baldoni responded with a $400 million defamation countersuit against Lively and her husband, Ryan Reynolds.
The legal battle lasted more than a year. A judge dismissed much of Lively's allegations, including sexual harassment charges, and also dismissed Baldoni's countersuit entirely.
Finally, in May 2026, both sides reached an out-of-court settlement to resolve the remaining charges, which included breach of contract and retaliation, thus avoiding a trial. As part of the settlement, no money was exchanged between the parties, although Lively asked Baldoni and Wayfarer to pay $7.5 million in legal fees.
Despite the complexity of the case, the Baldonis focused their message on gratitude and the family healing process. Justin Baldoni stated that “gratitude has saved us.” Emily Baldoni stressed that gratitude does not negate “the injustice and pain” they have felt, but that the truth and the facts have spoken for themselves.
Justin Baldoni described the deep emotional impact of the conflict, mentioning that “there have been so many painful things” and that they preferred not to add more noise, letting the judicial system take its course. He also thanked all those who had “discernment” and supported them, stating that thanks are not enough, but that their presence and support have been fundamental for them.
The couple concluded the video by reflecting on their healing process, noting that “healing is not linear” and that they have learned to refocus on what really matters: their family, their friends, their community and their faith.
Emily Baldoni hinted that there will be more to say in the future, but for now her priority is to continue healing and enjoying life with her children.
