Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor has targeted the BJP over the ongoing violence in Manipur and demanded imposition of President's rule in the state. He said that the people of Manipur are feeling betrayed by the BJP being brought back to power.
Tharoor wrote on Twitter- "In view of Manipur violence, people should now ask themselves, what happened to the good governance they were promised?"
He further said, "The people of Manipur are feeling betrayed only after one year of bringing CPI to power. It is time for President's rule here, as the state government is not ready for these conditions at the moment."
Let us tell you that this ongoing violence in Manipur started on the proposal to include the Meitei community in the Scheduled Tribe category. The death toll during this violence increased to close to 55 on Saturday. Local people are being evacuated from violence-hit areas and taken to safer places.
