The right-wing candidate Keiko Fujimori increased the advantage she maintains over the leftist Roberto Sánchez to 39,115 votes when 99.383% of the vote in the second presidential round that took place on June 7 in Peru has already been counted.

With this percentage, the leader of the Fuerza Popular party receives 50.107%, equivalent to 9,157,631 votes, compared to 49.893% for Sánchez, of the Together for Peru party, which totals 9,118,516 votes.

The National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) indicated that there are still 572 voting records with observations and challenges, which must be evaluated by the special electoral juries (JEE), out of a total of 92,766 records issued by the same number of polling stations.

In the special juries, the minutes are reviewed to resolve the complaints presented by the political groups in conflict and, if differences persist, they are sent to a new recount of votes in a public hearing.

Local media also reported this Wednesday that the National Elections Jury (JNE) agreed to evaluate a request from Together for Peru to cancel 647 voting stations that were installed in three cities in the United States.

Final declaration would be released in July

Although the JNE has not yet set a date to analyze that file, it was indicated that the measure was taken after the Special Electoral Jury (JEE) Lima Centro 2 declared an appeal filed by the leftist party admissible.

This Wednesday, Sánchez met for several hours at his party's headquarters with leaders, candidates and legal advisors, after which he announced to journalists that he will hold a press conference on Thursday morning because he has "very important announcements to make to Peru in this context of the fight for electoral justice."

The JNE indicated that the proclamation of the results of the second presidential round will take place no later than mid-July, less than two weeks before the change of command and the beginning of the next government period (2026-2031) in Peru.
